The sweetest season at Discovery Cube returns this winter. The Science of Gingerbread is the Cube’s annual holiday tradition that runs from November 29th to January 5th, 2020. Join us for Southern California’s largest Gingerbread Competition and Display. We’re accepting gingerbread structures November 23rd through December 8th at both campuses.

In the spirit of building, making and competition, the program features learning experiences designed with the engineer in mind. Investigate what holds a structure together, then test your hypothesis. Come to the aid of the Gingerbread Man as he runs, runs, as fast as he can by designing and building the perfect escape vehicle to help him outrun the bakers.

Get creative as you invent and design your own unique food model in the daily Creative Edible Mystery Competition – all while practicing the first step of the engineering design process. And finally, join Discovery Cube on the weekends for the Tallest Edible Tower Challenge where groups will compete to build a tower using edible items!

And for the Guests who just came for the sweets, get your holiday sugar fix at the bakery and decorate colorful cookies, daily.

The 6th Annual Nights of 1000 Lights will be twelve nights of holiday cheer!  Enjoy a ‘Blue Christmas’ with Elvis, take a stroll in the glistening light tunnel and boogie through the disco inFERNo. Enter a world of sugary sweets in Gingerbread Land, experience the magic of a Scandinavian Christmas, make a traditional Julehjerter and  be on the lookout for a family of trolls, follow the gnomes to visit Santa in his workshop, and warm yourself with hot chocolate and s’mores around the bonfire.  Make lasting memories with friends and family by celebrating the holidays at Sherman Library & Gardens!

All guests will enjoy complimentary coffee, hot chocolate, and a make your own s’mores station.  Additionally, there will be a no-host wine and beer bar, food available for purchase and holiday shopping in the Garden Shop.

Season’s greetings from the Irvine Spectrum! Starting November 1, visit Giant Wheel Court to “skate under the stars” in Irvine’s very own winter wonderland. Open to the public daily, Irvine Spectrum’s ice rink is a perfect destination for family and friends to take a break from shopping and capture the true essence of Christmas by creating magical memories together.

Looking for more holiday entertainment? Be sure to check out one of the center’s Themed Thursdays or annual Black Friday Frenzy! To celebrate the season of giving, the Irvine Spectrum will be offering skating discounts and giveaways during these select days.

Not much of a skater? Starting November 29, enjoy nightly tree lighting shows from atop of the Giant Wheel! It’s a sight you don’t want to miss!

Pacific View Memorial Park and Mortuary will host a Wreaths Across America ceremony at 9 a.m. on Saturday, December 14. Wreaths Across America is a national event that stands to remember our nation’s fallen heroes during the holidays. The nonprofit organization, Wreaths Across America, works to remember fallen United States veterans, honor those who serve and teach children the value of freedom by placing ceremonial wreaths on veterans’ graves.
More than 1,200 cemeteries across the nation will participate in this event and 700,000 wreaths will be laid. In support of this national effort, Pacific View Memorial Park and Mortuary is hosting a wreath laying ceremony in honor of local veterans.

The Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade is setting sail on its 111th year! HGTV’s Christina Anstead, star of ‘Flip or Flop’ and ‘Christina on the Coast’, will preside as Grand Marshal and will help ring in the festivities on opening night.

For five consecutive nights, the parade begins at approximately 6:30 p.m. and ends at 9 p.m. at the tip of Lido Isle. The parade opens with an exhilarating fireworks display from the Newport Pier at 6:15 p.m. on Dec. 18. Closing out in the same spectacular fashion, there will be special fireworks show from the Balboa Pier on the final night of the parade at 9 p.m. on Dec. 22.
